Recently, the China Consumers Association issued a consumer reminder: Be alert! Don't let children's toys become a "safety hazard" for children.

In recent years, China's toy retail sales have maintained a trend of increasing year by year. At the same time, cases of producing and selling low-quality children's toys have occurred frequently, and some even endanger the health and safety of children. The "Analysis of Complaints Accepted by the National Consumers Association in 2020" shows that in 2020, the National Consumers Association accepted a total of 4,847 complaints about children's toys, nearly twice the number of complaints in 2019. The safety-related issues mainly include mechanical and physical damage (such as small toy parts falling off, toys with dangerous sharp edges, etc.), chemical damage (such as illegal addition of prohibited substances, content of certain elements exceeding national standards, etc.), applicable age and actual toy Injuries caused by misuse and misplay of non-toy products. In this regard, the China Consumers Association reminds parents:

1. Don't buy inferior children's toys for cheap

It is understood that there are some substandard products in the current children's toy market that do not meet the relevant national toy safety standards. Some of these products are "three-no" products with no production date, no manufacturer, and no quality certificate, and some are inferior products with toxic and harmful prohibited substances or some element content exceeding the standard. For example, in 2020, the Guangdong Provincial Market Supervision Bureau conducted a random inspection on the quality of 1,035 children's toy products from 651 companies and found that 214 products produced by 184 companies were unqualified. Therefore, in order to avoid inferior children’s toys from causing harm to children, it is recommended that parents purchase children’s toys from regular shopping malls or reputable online stores, and pay attention to keeping the shopping voucher.

2.  buy toys to look for CCC certification
At present, the country implements CCC certification for three kinds of children's products, including baby carriage products, toys, and motor vehicle restraint systems for child occupants. Parents must look for CCC certification when buying these types of children's toys, and don't buy them without CCC certification.

3. Toys purchased should be suitable for the age group of children
The second batch of typical cases of "Iron Fist" in 2021 announced by the State Administration of Market Supervision showed that the market supervision bureau of Dongshan County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province found a bell ball toy that was not marked with the applicable age range and descriptive age mark during the law enforcement process. It complies with the national mandatory standards of GB6675.2-2014 "Toy Safety Part 2 Mechanical and Physical Performance", and administrative penalties have been imposed on it in accordance with the law. The "applicable age" mark is very important. When purchasing toys, parents must pay attention to the age-appropriate age marked on the toy package and choose toys that match the age of their children.

4.  some products are not toys and not suitable for children to play
Although some products may seem "fun", they are actually not toys. Because of their high safety risks, it is recommended not to use them as toys for children. There are three common ones. One is the laser pointer. The second is an electric balance car. The third is the water spirit.

5. It is best to accompany younger children during play
Parents should perform their guardian duties well, supervise and guide children to use toys correctly, and cultivate children's correct consumption concepts and safety awareness. One is to suggest that parents spend more time playing with their children. Especially when younger children are playing, it is best for parents to accompany them all the way, so that they can stop them in time when they engage in dangerous behaviors. The second is that parents should try their best to choose educational toys that are suitable for their children's body and mind, and prevent children from having electronic products prematurely. If electronic products must be used for online lessons, homework, etc., they should also strictly control the use time to prevent children from indulging in electronic products. Or online games, not only delays school work, but also affects children's vision health. Third, parents should continue to carry out consumer education based on their children's age and consumption ability, so that children can develop good habits of scientific and rational consumption from an early age, and prevent children from overconsumption of toys or addiction to buying toy blind boxes. Fourth, don't neglect the safety education of children, and constantly improve children's self-protection ability, such as telling children not to put toys in their mouths, asking children to wash their hands as soon as possible after playing, and not to rub their eyes during play.

In addition, toy operators should continuously improve product safety standards, improve production technology, strengthen self-discipline, and create a safer and more secure toy consumption environment for children from the source.
