Regulations Express | Update of International Access Standards for Household Heater Products

Recently, many countries and regions have updated or revised the versions of heater safety standards, mainly as follows:


North America
Latest revision published on 21 February 2022

Australia and New Zealand
Published on 26 November 2021 A4:2021
The latest version is: AS/NZS 60335.2.30:2015 + A1:2015 + A2:2017 + A3:2020 + A4:2021,
Enforcement date: November 26, 2023

EU
The latest version is EN 60335 2 30: 2009+A11:2012+A1:2020+A12:2020,
Enforcement date: February 12, 2023

International IECEE
The latest version is IEC 60335 2 30: 2009 + A1:2016 +A2:2021

The standard content update is now excerpted as follows:

UL 1278 New Standard
specific requirements
The new UL 1278 standard adds warning statements and signs for hazards due to overheating of surfaces during normal use of the heater. But for products with rated power below 850W (excluding 850W), this requirement is not mandatory;
Standard clauses covered: 67.13, 67.14, 67.25, Figure 67.2, 68.2.1, 68.3.3, 69.1, 69.2, 69.3.
67.13 and 67.14, for household heaters (except for ceiling-mounted products), a warning statement about the danger of overheating needs to be added to the product, and the warning statement needs to be permanently marked on the front of the product in a visible position;

67.25, an additional tag is required on the product (rated power greater than 850W), a description of the danger of overheating;




368.2 and 68.3, in the warning statement of the product instruction manual, add a warning statement about the danger of overheating;

69.2 and 69.3, add a warning statement about the danger of overheating to the product power cord label.
Impact of the new standard
The content added in the new UL 1278 standard involves changes in product warning labels, manuals, and power cord labels. The certificate holder should make modifications in advance to avoid unnecessary losses.

EN new standard
In the EN A12:2020 standard, the requirement that the length of the power cord of the heater with a plug and a power cord of 1m~1.9m has been deleted.

New Standard for Australia and New Zealand
The updated content of A14:2021 is equivalent to IEC 60335-2-30/A2:2021.
